I have always suffered from chronic headaches. Even as a young girl, I remember missing school on many occasions because my head was hurting. Sometimes these headaches were migraines, other times they were just really painful headaches, but they always slowed me down. Eventually they became such a normal part of my life that popping some ibuprofen, drinking caffeine, and wearing dark sunglasses were just part of my routine. I probably averaged 1-2 headaches a week. Always.
As an adult I tried to figure out the cause of my headaches. I eliminated food groups and tried every natural remedy under the sun (including essential oils), but never experienced long-term relief.
Then, last year, after a particularly rough flu season, I decided to get proactive about my family’s health. I had read some research that said chiropractic care can help your body fight off infection and heal more quickly from sickness. I researched chiropractors and made an appointment for the whole family. The intent behind getting my family chiropractic care was to help us stay healthy. I never expected that it would heal my chronic headaches. But it did.
The first appointment, our chiropractor took some x-rays and discovered that I had some degeneration going on in my neck. He said “I bet your headaches originate from right here.”, as he pushed on an area at the base of my skull. It hurt! And immediately the familiar ache started growing in my head. He had nailed.it. After my first adjustment I didn’t have a headache for two weeks. As I kept going, the time between headaches kept growing.
Now the only times I get a headache are on the days I’m adjusted. I’m not sure why that is and I definitely need to talk to my chiropractor about that, but one headache a month sure beats 2 headaches a week. I wish I had tried chiropractic care a long time ago.
