Legos are my favorite toy.  There’s just something about that simple toy that brings out the kid in me.  I am a minimalist when it comes to toys in the house, but we always have room for more Legos. I love how they inspire creativity, build fine motor skills, and provide hours and hours of endless entertainment.  My boys build with Legos every single day.  I even got my own Lego set for Mother’s day (and I didn’t share!).

But with Legos, comes big mess and I am not a fan of big messes.

I’m also not a fan of stepping on Legos in the middle of the night when my son can’t find his pillow (it’s under his head) or when I sneak in to stare at them sleeping (because they are growing way too fast).  When I ask them to clean up, it is PAINSTAKING to watch as they pick up each individual piece.

Then, one day, it finally occurred to me. What if there was a way to scoop up all the Legos at once?  What if I could save an hour of our day, everyday, from the very boring action of cleaning tiny, brilliant pieces of molded plastic off the ground?

Maybe every other mom has already figured this out, but I finally realized all it would take was a simple dustpan with a small broom and they could sweep up those Legos.  I rushed off to the dollar store and found exactly what I needed.  I bought two (one for each kid) and after a simple lesson on how to use them, I will say it has revolutionized Lego cleaning time in our household.Tired of how long it takes your kids to clean up their Legos? Best $2 I have ever spent.

What used to take a lot of time, with some whining and complaining, is now easily accomplished in minutes without whining and complaining.

Less cleaning, more building.

And every mother said Amen.

  1. My mom would make sure that my brother kept all his legos on his old baby blanket, when it was cleanup time all he had to do was pick up the four corners, and dump out the whole in his bucket. 🙂

    • We have actually found that it works just as well on carpet, although I imagine it wouldn’t work well on a shaggy type carpet.
