I have been so terrible about preserving memories.
I love taking pictures of my kids and the adventures of their childhood, but then they just sit on my computer.
About 5 years ago I began to feel guilty that I wasn’t preserving these memories for my kids, so I spent way too long going through all of our digital photos and spent a small fortune printing them all and buying a photo album to put them in. I had planned to keep on top of it, but storage was an issue (we live in a relatively small space), money was an issue, and time was an issue. I kept pushing it to the very end of my very long to-do list, and so nothing was ever done.
Preserving Memories on a Budget
This past year I finally found a solution to my picture problem and I thought I would share it here. This is not a sponsored post in any way, I just found something I love and that simplified my life and is helping me preserve these precious moments with my children – on a budget!
There is a fun little app called Chatbooks that takes picture from your phone, your Dropbox, your Instagram, etc. and prints them in groups of 60 pictures (along with captions if desired) for $8 a book. It only took me about an hour to set up all the books I needed back to 2010. I can order 1 a month at $8 plus free shipping. It won’t be long until I am all caught up on pictures and I am loving that I didn’t have to spend a lot of time to get it all done – momma is busy!
Our family looks forward to the new book we get each month. They are a perfect glimpse into those moments of everyday life that I don’t want to forget. Whenever my kids say something really funny, I take their picture and caption in with their quote. All of those moments are now captured into these little books. I love that they don’t take up a lot of space and that they are automatically organized by date.
I have thought of 1,000 different things I could do with these little books. Gifts for grandparents, documentation of family vacations, even publish stories for a home school project. It would be so easy to take pictures of my kids’ illustrations, and then make a book with their stories as the captions.
I could go on and on, but mostly I’m just grateful I don’t have to organize hundreds of printed photos. That is definitely not my thing, although I have lots of friends who love to print photos and put them into beautiful scrapbooks.
