December is upon us.
This time of year can get kind of crazy.
It’s always around this time of year that I just want to rebel against it all, pack up my family and move to a cabin somewhere in the middle of nowhere with no shopping malls and no social media, just a cabin. A cabin with a warm fire, a Bible, and the company of loved ones. I would love to experience a celebration of Jesus’ birth with no hustle and bustle and with pure simplicity.
Do you ever feel that way?
I know this year we made some intentional decisions to keep things simple and it has been such a breath of fresh air.
It’s time to slow down.
It’s time to savor these coming weeks. Step outside and let the cool air fill your lungs. Look around and enjoy the beauty of the world. Bake some treats and enjoy every last morsel. Read some books. Snuggle your kids. Fellowship with your friends and neighbors. Love on people. Give. Serve.
But don’t get lost in the flurry. Don’t get caught up in the commercialism and the pressure to do it all. You don’t have to keep up with 49 different traditions, create a picture perfect home, spend yourself broke on gifts that will be forgotten, and scrapbook every moment of it all.
That’s not what it’s about.
That’s not what our kids will remember.
Slow down, mama.
Focus on joy.
May this next month be filled with love, joy, and peace as you turn your hearts towards Him.
